Hello Everyone,
Falaza Game Reserve
As we get deep into August we are beginning to see the glimmer of spring here. The weather is already getting warmer and the days longer, however we are all aware of the late cold spells that always come and catch us by surprise in September.
Business has been very good for the so called quiet season, one wonders though how much of the world wide recession is going to hit everyone in the international high season starting October, because this phase we are all entering now will be the really crucial part.
Hluhluwe Game Reserve
Falaza Private Game Reserve is the ideal place to stay when one wants to explore the region that surrounds us. There is actually so much to do and see here these days, that we are going to start today with a section in this newsletter that will keep you updated on the activities available here and remind you of some of the main reasons why people find this such an interesting destination.

The first being the almost mystical Hluhluwe/Imfolozi big five Game Reserve, whilst the world is well acquainted with the brand name of Kruger National Park, we find it is Hluhluwe/Imfolozi that always surprises international (and local travellers for that matter) the most.

Laying a strong claim to being the oldest game reserve in Africa (this is disputed in some quarters) and definitely the oldest in South Africa the reserve is famous for saving the Southern White Rhino from extinction.
Hluhluwe is also probably one of the most beautiful game reserves in the country. Its lush green hills and valleys offer some amazing vantage points for game viewing.
Like in any game reserve you get your good and bad days as far as game viewing going goes. But it is highly unusual not get at least a good close up of White Rhino, giraffes and buffalo on a bad day, and on a good day it is not unusual to come across elephant, hyena, lion, with the elusive leopard thrown in for good measure on the exceptional days.
There is nothing as awe inspiring as coming across a huge herd of elephants, and at certain times of the year the herds that gather in the Hluhluwe section will take your breath away.
Potholes
Are South African roads really becoming as bad as we think they are? Or is someone just having some fun?

When a white rhino wanders past in the background (which is not unusual at all) it really makes the occasion a little more special.
Native Americans
Native American Indians often have a wonderful outlook on life and in particular were known for their understanding of animal conservation and how they lived along side animals. Below is a little lesson an old man once gave a young man. It is such a simple but highly accurate philosophy that is worth a quick read.
Two Wolves
One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My boy, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.
"One Wolf is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
"The other Wolf is Good - It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
